Natalia Ershova (b. 1988) is an artist working at the intersection of documentary and conceptual photography, installation, and mockumentary. Her practice explores themes of identity transformation, technological utopias, and social isolation. Often drawing on the aesthetics of dystopian fiction, visual research, and mockumentary, her work pays particular attention to vulnerable social groups as a way to reflect structural distortions in contemporary society. She graduated from the Russian State University for the Humanities with a degree in Journalism. She studied in the workshops of Elena Sukhoveeva and Viktor Khmel (2016–2017), at DocDocDoc School (2019–2020), the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA, 2020–2022), and the VII Academy (2024). Her projects have been shown at international festivals and exhibitions, including FORMAT (UK), Encontros da Imagem (Portugal), LagosPhoto (Nigeria), Getxophoto (Spain), Photovisa (Russia), as well as in institutions in Germany, Norway, Indonesia, and other countries. She is a finalist and awardee of numerous international competitions, including the BarTur Photo Award, Kuala Lumpur Photo Awards, Prix Levallois, and ND Awards. She received grants from the Russian Ministry of Culture in 2021, 2023, and 2024. She lives and works in Moscow and Belgrade.
